Guide
How much life insurance do you need?
A tool and explanation: years of support, mortgage balance, college costs and existing coverage.
A typical method: add up what years of your income would support, deduct what you already have in place, and round to a convenient figure. It does not require precision; term policies are sold in round units, and the objective is to keep your household stable through the years that matter most.
Coverage estimate
Calculation: annual income × years of support + loans and mortgages + education savings - existing coverage, rounded to $5,000. This is a starting point, not professional guidance.
Why those inputs
Years of income. Professionals typically recommend coverage for ten to twenty years of income, depending on how much your family would need. Many Arcadia families with younger children opt for the longer timeframe since child-related costs, housing, and education expenses often overlap.
Loans and mortgages. A mortgage is the single largest debt for most families. Coverage in the amount of your mortgage balance lets your family maintain their home or sell on their timeline, free from financial pressure.
Education funding. A rough estimate per child in current dollars. Including it now is less complicated than purchasing additional coverage afterward.
What you possess already. Money in savings and workplace group coverage. Group coverage usually stops when employment ends, so many people only count a percentage of it.
Once you have a target, the quote tool shows you what that amount costs for 10 through 30-year terms from every carrier. Many families buy somewhat more than their calculation because the monthly difference is small when you're younger.
