The Asian-American population of Arcadia grew dramatically over the past half century. In 1970, the city was approximately 99% white. By 1985, the Asian population had grown to 9%, and the transformation continued through subsequent decades. The 2020 Census counted 36,772 residents identifying as Asian alone, representing 64.9% of Arcadia's total population of 56,681.

This growth reflects broader patterns in the San Gabriel Valley, which contains the largest concentration of East Asian American communities in the United States. Eight of the ten U.S. cities with the highest proportion of Chinese Americans are located in the San Gabriel Valley. Arcadia sits at the heart of this culturally rich and economically dynamic region, where multiple generations of families have chosen to build their homes.

The strength of Arcadia's Asian-American community means that many households are multi-generational, with parents supporting children and grandchildren, adult children caring for aging parents, and complex family financial interdependencies. Life insurance fits into these networks as a practical way to honor those obligations and ensure economic stability when the primary earner is no longer there.
